About Andikan
Adikan Asuquo Moses Akpan was born on April 16, 1990, the older of paternal twin boys, to Moses and Joyce Akpan. He was brought up believing that the life he lived was a special gift from God, and in response to these great blessings he "should live a life of gratitude." He embraced these values as they are reflected in his long term academic aspirations. His short life echoed these bed rock values - "Living a Life of Blessing." He was active, vibrant, bright and joyful. He loved music and was in band from elementary through high school playing the alto sax.
Andi was very active in his church. He served as Secretary of the Fellowship Church of Christ Board of Trustees at the young age of 19 and traveled with the Church on a mission trip to an orphanage in Mexico. He volunteered at World Care in Tucson Arizona, Tucson Medical Center and VA Hospital. In 2011, he served as a Science Fair Judge from Tucson Magnet School and was a member of G.I.V.E. - Goals, Inspirations, Values and Education. |

Andikan studied and absorbed as much as he could about Sickle Cell Disease so that he could take care of himself and also help others. He understood the pain and challenges that confront victims of chronic diseases and sought to do something about SCD. Andi was passionate about doing medical research and possessed a calm strength and acted on the courage of his convictions. He accomplished in 21 years what takes many a lifetime to achieve.
